Elle rocks the "Piaf" scarf on the school run

Just remembered I have this Malene Birger "Piaf" scarf (from The Outnet last Winter). Yipeee! Elle Macpherson needs to write a book on the art of tying a scarf. Because these two examples are a little bit perfection. PS How much do you love that Elle (and Claudia Schiffer's!!) kids don't go to your kid's primary school... OMG. Too much. PPS Did you know you can follow the Table Tonic blog with bloglovin?

"The Essentials" by Tom Ford

The only list a man will ever need - In true Tom "Virgo" Ford style. Although a "beautiful toothbrush"? Really Tom? Hey Oral B - Are you writing this down? PS The only boxes Mr Tonic will be ticking on this list is number one and two. Most disconcerting, really...

Happy MATCHBOOK Day! April 2011 out now!

Admittedly a day late (it never just rains online magazines, it pours online magazines!), but incase you haven't already, check out the latest issue from the Matchbook magazine team here

Happy ADORE HOME day: April/May 2011 out now!

Rather loving the colour being thrown around the Table Tonic blog today, and wait! There's more! Adore Home's brand spankers new April/May 2011 issue is out NOW and how good is that cover? Oh my goodness, does (founder/creator) Loni do an amazing job or what...?! Nice one, Loni - thanks for the greatness!

(below) Loved the tour of Viv's place, with her Table Tonic Pink Spot Ikat cushions looking right at home in that fit-for-a-princess living room!

(below) A Table Tonic off white juju hat in Viv's study.

(below) Remember the pair of bone china wings on Anoushka's bedroom wall? Viv has put hers on the dining table, something that would never have occurred to me! The detail in them is just exquisite. You can buy them here at Have You Met Miss Jones.

Found! The PERFECT (budget friendly!) Fuschia Lipstick

I'm here today to talk about the lipstick I bought an hour ago from the chemist! Yes I said the chemist. So listen up! Described as "hot pink with very slight purple pearl" (there isn't really any "pearl", it's very matte), it's Australis "Colour Inject Mineral Lipstick" in Flamenco. Oh, and PS It set me back a mere $12.95 (insert smiley face).

(above) Wearing my favourite item of clothing (I will be buried in it), a Gorman jacket. Dress by Bassike. Aussie fashion at it's finest.

Table Tonic in today's Sydney Morning Herald!

The Essential Style supplement out with today's Sydney Morning Herald, leads with a feature on online shopping.

I was so chuffed to have one of the editors call and ask if they could come and take a peek at Anoushka's newly finished room, to be included in the feature. So last week, they did, a photographer snapping away while I spoke to Harriet about the many online purchases in her room.

(below) I love it when they say "And now we'll just get a shot of you..." (I was expecting to email them a headshot!!). Yah. So that's yours truly. In a national newspaper. With no makeup on.

Quoted in the Sydney Morning Herald... Day = Made.

Daphne Guinness's New York apartment in AD

The other week, I talked about mirrored walls and their ability to open up and brighten virtually any space or room. And still on that note, the minute I saw the below image I knew I just had to post it - The living room in the New York apartment of (eccentric fashionista, heiress, mother and muse) Daphne Guinness. I know it won't be everyone's taste, but it's pretty dingin' dazzling if you ask me!

You can take the full house tour, as it appeared in Architectural Digest, over here at Habitually Chic. I recently subscribed to AD, so hoping this is the first issue to arrive!!

On my bookshelf: 5 fab new interiors reads!

A so-fresh-it's-not-funny crop of coffee table glossiness just hit the Table Tonic's bookshelf, and I couldn't wait to give y'all the lowdown. Listen up:

(below) 1. Kelly Hoppen Ideas: Showcasing this world-renowned designer's exceptional talent and professional  experience, this is an invaluable source of inspiration and advice for anyone undertaking home design or redecoration, whatever the scale or budget. Kelly Hoppen explains how she works (insightful!) and offers creative solutions for every aspect of design and decoration, from evaluating and reconfiguring space and layout, to planning the lighting, choosing materials and furniture, and adding individual touches. Kelly Hoppen Ideas is the perfect resource for anyone embarking on a home design project, whether you're starting with a blank canvas or merely giving one room a freshen up.

And speaking of Kelly Hoppen, did you see the spread on her (below) in the latest issue of Rue?

(below) 2. Shopping Architecture Now!:
Shops are the one place where the stars of the world of architecture encounter the people who make the world of design turn. The most recent retail spaces, worldwide are featured, ranging from astonishing shopping centers to interactive store windows or a tiny jewel-like chocolate store in the heart of Paris. A pop-up store for Dr. Martens shoes, a unique newsstand or flagship stores for the likes of Armani or Balenciaga are all part of what makes Retail Architecture one of the most exciting and dynamic areas of contemporary creativity. Apple computers, Uniqlo clothes, or Nike shoes can all be found here in a spirit of perfect harmony with the best that today's architecture and design can offer. Books, jewelry, fine foods and handbags are glorified and amplified by glass, steel, and the latest, most sophisticated techniques in design and branding.

(below) 3. Essential Elegance, The interiors of Solís Betancourt: For Jose Solís and Paul Sherrill, partners in interior design firm Solís Betancourt, the goal for every interior is a balance between formal and informal, traditional and contemporary, while always keeping comfort and livability in mind. In a "Solís Betancourt room", comfort centers on the sensuous fabrics that might envelop an armchair, cushion a delicate settee, or softly frame a set of French doors. Fabric might be used as an accent, lining niches or bookcases as a background for the objects on display. Or fabric might take on a more important role, covering the ceiling and walls to create a tactile and alluring environment. These are interiors that offer a moment of transcendence, a glimpse beyond everyday routine. These are rooms to come home to, sanctuaries that offer a sense of protection, tranquility, and beauty. PS You can read Architectural Digest's profile on Solís Betancourt here. And PPS Click here to have a good "virtual rummage" through the book!

(below) 4. The Finest Rooms in America: I'm going to let the reviews do the talking on this one.
“A definitive compendium of decorating that's begging to live on your bookshelf. Mr. Jayne, mega decorator himself and disciple of interiors legend Albert Hadley, has a refreshingly democratic eye (for a decorator) presenting an array of finery from the tippy top of society’s homes—tastefully jammed with important European furniture or, conversely, lean and tailored with collectible modern. It is a treat to have all of this catalogued in one swell tome.” The Wall Street Journal
Thomas Jayne, the New York decorator, has always brought both a scholarly knowledge of design history and a quirky sense of the modern to his work, creating rooms that bridge the old and the new. And even though there is none of Jayne’s own work in this new book, his sensibility is evident in his choice of what the book’s subtitle calls “fifty influential interiors from the 18th century to the present.” TheNewYorkTimes.com
“From Thomas Jefferson’s tearoom to Albert Hadley’s sitting room, 50 of America’s most inspiring spaces.” House Beautiful
“A fascinating tour of the country’s most influential extant spaces, by an always engaging, sharp-eyed guide.” Veranda
“Titling a book The Finest Rooms in America is an ambitious proclamation, but Thomas Jayne delivers a thorough and satisfying portrait of some of the most striking American interiors in this new book.” AOL.com (Shelterpop)

(below) 5. Australia's Best Beach Houses: The ‘Best’ series is an inspirational set of pictorial books filled with what is ‘now’ in Australian architecture and design. Australia's Best Beach Houses is the fourth in the series - a superb showcase of the very best contemporary beach houses Australia has to offer. From modern contemporary to some more classic design styles, this gorgeous book has something for everybody.

PS Somebody say "Mother's Day is coming up"? Yes. Sunday 8th May. Diarize it! PPS For buying books online, I always recommend Book Depository, Booktopia or Amazon. UPDATE: Please add Booko to that list (thanks Jane)!

Elle Decor April 2011 and House & Garden May 2011

Yesterday I received the US Vogue "Rihanna issue", which I positively devoured last night, and today? Elle Decor April 2011 (on sale now) and House & Garden May 2011 (on sale soon). I'm telling you, Tonic-ettes - subscribe and save - and love your mailbox like there's no tomorrow! Isn't it uncanny how similar these 2 covers are?!

I have never wanted to live inside a magazine cover as much as the April Elle Decor one! It's a cover I can't ever imagine (previous Editor-in-Chief) Margaret Russell running with.... You know? It's a lot less stuffy/polished than previous ED covers. And I like it! Thoughts?

Retro-Lust: Louis Vuitton Monogram Scuba Collection

Wishing life had a "Time Machine" feature, just like my Mac. If it did? I'd be begging, borrowing and stealing to get my hands on the *cough* entire Louis Vuitton Monogram Scuba Collection from the Cruise 2009 range by Marc Jacobs... Because Neon and Louis Vuitton? Two of my absolute faaavourite things. Dear LV. Be a love and re-release the range? Go on. It'll be fun!
Paris Vogue, Jak + Jil, Louis Vuitton

PS This Louis Vuitton campaign (last 2 images) was shot by Patrick Demarchelier in Lake Como, Italy - one of the most jaw-droppingly gorgeous places I have ever had the privilege of visiting. PPS If you're LV obsessed, you simply have to bookmark ilvoelv.

Vogue Paris April 2011: Beautifully Bohemian

That heavenly, almost virginal April 2011 French Vogue cover (very bottom pic) has been floating around the blogosphere for a while now, but I only just laid eyes on the accompanying editorial, featuring new mum (omg) Gisele, a bucketload of neutrals and one helluva picturesque coastline. The words "too good not to share" came to mind. I'm such a sucker for comfy looking fashion...

Ikea "Bekvam" spice rack hack: A(nother) progress report

Rightio then, seems we're almost at the end of the "Bekvam" Spice rack journey (I know, sad, isn't it?). With the racks up and Anoushka's room finally painted a colour, the only thing left to do is give them their own final coats of (Dulux Vivid) white. But golly gosh, it's been a wonderful ride, made infinitely better by uber-decor-blog Ohdeeoh giving them a big ol' "hey-ho"!

Enormous thanks to Nicole of First House on the Right for alerting me to it. I know. Who misses their own shout out on OHDEE-bloody-OH!?!!? Me. That's who. Below is Nicole's very own "Reading Corner" - you can catch her step by step here.

Oh, and in case you were wondering what they look like now, here is my Spice Rack wall REVEAL!

Walls painted in Dulux "Sweet Sixteen", Spice racks from Ikea, Tarnby rug from Ikea, Moroccan Pouffes in bright orange and gold from the Table Tonic online store. That's a wrap.

Stylist trick: Creating a bookend-free bookshelf

From my own past experiences, bookends are either too bulky or too light to support the weight of the books. Perhaps you haven't got any bookends? Well. Think you really need them? Think again. By using the books themselves, in most situations, you can actually create a nice little arrangement without needing anything else! Exhibit A:

(above) I put my "stylist" hat on and this was the result. See! Not a bookend in sight! Doesn't look too shabby, either.

Table Tonic's week(end) in review...

The weekend kicked off beautifully around lunchtime Friday, where we enjoyed a leisurely lunch with the birthday boy. The Boathouse at Palm Beach would have to be one of the most beautiful spots in Sydney, rather loving that it's in the next suburb! And yes. Jasper and his new Skateboard? Officially inseparable.

(above) Jasper and "Penny". BFF's.

(above) I had the Goat's cheese Frittata (left) and both Mr Tonic and Jasper had Fish & Chips (right)

(above) That would be me. Wearing (because it's useful information) French Connection top, Karen Walker sunglasses, Ausko scarf, Hermes cuff.

 (above) The Tonic boyz.

(above) I wandered down to the corner store on Saturday arvo, only to stumble upon this - A Vogue Living Before + After Special Edition (on sale now)! Will post a sneak peak soon.

(above) A gorgeous High School friend of mine texted me on Saturday arvo (and an ex-collegue tweeted me!) to alert me to this little mention - A quarter page in Saturday's Good Weekend (Sydney Morning Herald) supplement, featuring a Table Tonic Moroccan Wedding Blanket! And PS I have a bunch more breathtakingly beautiful Vintage Moroccan wedding blankets arriving in the next few weeks!

Of course I always know about these things in advance, but it's always such a thrill to see them in print!

(above) 8.30pm, Saturday. Earth Hour. I loved the warm glow half a dozen lit candles gave the house. I vowed to do it more often. PS I actually almost lit one of my Enjoy flameless candles. I was quite funny, really!

I hope you all created some wonderful memories over the weekend and wish you a superb week ahead! x
