Out now: Ivy and Piper + Rue magazine! Click to read!

Click to read Ivy and Piper's March/April 2012 issue - "a lookbook of beautiful interiors from around the world to inspire and encourage you to create the home of your dreams". And PS Their "brand new look" was created by none other than (my ex-colleague) Miss Veronica King, aka Veronica Loves Archie!

And click to read RUE magazine's March/April 2012 issue - look out for the RUE shops Melbourne feature, starring Australia's very own Lucy Feagins, aka The Design Files!

My favourite page in RUE? This one (below) for obvious reasons! Moroccan Leather Pouffes are the most versatile piece of furniture you'll own - Truly! We are constantly moving ours around the house (did I mention they look great ANYWHERE?) - a footrest, a laptop table, something for Miss Four to sit on while she buckles her shoes... You get the picture. Click to browse the rainbow-coloured range of Table Tonic Moroccan Leather Pouffes. Descisions, decisions...

Out now: Adore Home and Rue magazine! Click to read!

Have you read Adore Home's "Sizzling Summer Edition" yet? No? Hop to it! I've said it before, and I'll say it again - when it comes to the complete package (overall design/page layouts & content), Adore Home is my favourite online magazine. I think Loni's graphic design background is what makes Adore Home the pleasure that it is to read - Oh, and make sure you check out the Adore Home blog too. Alright, enough gushing...

Inside, I spotted (among the fabulousness) a Turquoise Moroccan Leather Pouffe, a Yellow Juju Hat and on page 16, a Table Tonic Cherry & Yellow Ikat cushion!

But wait, there's still more - Rue's Holiday Issue 2011 is also out now!

Also spotted - An orange Moroccan Leather Pouffe in this swoony modernist house in Atlanta...

Happy Thursday Tonic-ettes!

So what's new? Magazines! Magazines! Magazines!

Holy high ceilings Batman it's raining magazines! When the mail man rode up the driveway yesterday and handed me no less than 3 magazines, I instantly felt my blogging muscle twitch. So lets do this:

(below) House Beautiful October 2011. Heaven. Loving HB right now!

(below) Just look at the gorgeous contents page... positively ooooooozing with eyecandy...

(below) Delicious October 2011 - borrowed from Ma & Pa Tonic. I had lunch at my parent's house last week, and they had made the entire meal from this issue, including the "Sake & Ginger Roasted Salmon" on page 90 and an egg noodle salad with peanut dressing (p78) from Bill Granger's new book, Bills Everyday Asian - which looks diviiine. And which I now need.

(below) House & Garden November 2011 - A fantastic issue. Super thick, super good.

(below) And look! A Table Tonic Grey and White Ikat cushion (p156) in a gorgeous old Queenslander on the Sunshine Coast:

(below) US Vogue's infamous September issue is a whopper - 758 pages! I'm going to need a week in Hawaii to get through this one...

(below) Inside Out magazine's November/December issue is also superb (everything is really great this month!!). So many colourful and eclectic homes... And PS To join the conversation and have any design questions answered, visit their Facebook page.

(below) The Table Tonic Neon Lime Spot Ikat cushion makes an appearance on page 70 (squeal!!). And how fab is that little sofa ($4800 from Edit)?!

(below) This time, I'm pilfering from Mr Tonic - his HOUSES subscription is getting a run for it's money! Issue 82 is out now.

(below) If you like your decor magazines with a side cover of horse, then the October 2011 issue of Verandah is for you!

BUT WAIT. THERE'S MORE! (below) American online decor magazine Rue's anniversary issue is live. Happy Anniversary Rue-sters!

(below) And Aussie online decor magazine Ivy & Piper's 1st Birthday Issue is live. Happy birthday Ivy & Piper!

So. What are YOU reading/loving/drooling over right now? Spill!

A day in the life: 28.07.11

The success story: Would you believe me if I told you Orson and Blake was 20 years old? Sheesh. I can almost remember the day they opened that gorgeous little Woollahra store - there was nothing like it at the time, and to this day, I thoroughly enjoy a browse whenever I'm in the area. Natalie Walton has done a great interview with Orson and Blake founder, David Heiman over at Daily Imprint. Well worth a read.

The DIY: How beautiful is this "tree of magic wonders" Heidi Middleton made for her daughters! As seen on the Sass & Bide blog, which is lovely by the way.

The footwear: It's a known fact that the effectiveness of a new exercise regime is greatly enhanced by shiny new footwear. I bring you Exhibit A: My Nike LunarEclipse+ running shoes! The guy in the shop told me that basically, the more you pay for sports shoes, the more cushioning you get. Which is possibly why, for $239 (yikes!), I feel like I am walking on a trampoline - they truly are astonishingly comfy! PS I bought them at The Athletes Foot.

The deal: Buy $100 worth of Dermalogica, get a voucher for $30! Click the image to enlarge and grab the details. Because - and you can take my word for it - their products are fan-tastic.

The sale: Alannah Hill at 50% off? Yes please!

The magazines: Architectural Digest August 2011 is in the house! Click to see what's inside this issue.

(below) Australian Country Style's August 2011 issue is also on sale now.

The online magazine: RUE issue six is live!

The camera: For those of you who have asked which camera I use, it's this one (below) - a Nikon D40. I'm fairly sure they don't sell this model anymore, but anything similar will be just as awesome. And my best tip? Learn how to use it - read the manual or do a quick photography course. PS I also use my iPhone a lot for photos, but if you want to know my real secret to getting gorgeous blog images, it's Photoshop. I almost always sharpen, bump up the contrast and saturate the colour a little before I upload anything.

Happy Thursday, my Tonic-ettes!

THAT New York Times article: The aftermath

I received two emails during the night - This one from Lonny at 2.31am (AEST):

And this one from Rue at 5.57am (AEST):

Have you read the article yet? It seems to be causing quite an online stir, prompting the brilliant Grace Bonney of (freshly redesigned) Design Sponge to post "Design Online: A Response to the NY Times Story on Online Magazines". PS It's "3,300+ words" long. And you just have to have to HAVE TO read it.

As @MatchbookMag tweeted only hours ago, Grace's article subsequently gave Katie and Jane of Matchbook "the courage" to post "A Letter to our Readers" on the Matchbook blog yesterday.

Both are well worth a read.

I think I share the sentiment of many when I say that the original article made a many valid points and was, as I mentioned yesterday, an insightful read. As for comparing online magazines to print magazines? Well I'm not sure that's entirely fair. We're not paying $7.95 for each issue of an online magazine, and many of the staff work (if only initially) for no pay. ONLINE MAGAZINES ARE FREE.

That reminds me - The June 2011 issue of Matchbook magazine (with Shoshanna Gruss, aka "Jerry Seinfeld's ex" on the cover) is live! Click to read.

"The Thriving (Online) Shelter Magazine Industry"

An insightful article about the "mini-boomlet" in online design mags ran in the New York Times today which I thought you'd all enjoy - Click to read "The Thriving (Online) Shelter Magazine Industry".

(above) Clockwise from top left:
Patrick Cline and Michelle Adams of Lonny;
Paloma Contreras of High Gloss;
Anne Sage and Crystal Gentilello of Rue;
and Katie Armour of Matchbook.
