Squint your eyes and Claudia Schiffer could happily be Brigitte Bardot on the cover of July 2011 UK Harper's Bazaar. Don't you think? The issue hits UK newsstands on Monday, and I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for it here in Australia - Those megawatt brights make me sad to be boarding the train to Winterville (like I needed another reason to loathe it!).

THAT New York Times article: The aftermath

I received two emails during the night - This one from Lonny at 2.31am (AEST):
And this one from Rue at 5.57am (AEST):
Have you read the article yet? It seems to be causing quite an online stir, prompting the brilliant Grace Bonney of (freshly redesigned) Design Sponge to post "Design Online: A Response to the NY Times Story on Online Magazines". PS It's "3,300+ words" long. And you just have to have to HAVE TO read it.
As @MatchbookMag tweeted only hours ago, Grace's article subsequently gave Katie and Jane of Matchbook "the courage" to post "A Letter to our Readers" on the Matchbook blog yesterday.
Both are well worth a read.
I think I share the sentiment of many when I say that the original article made a many valid points and was, as I mentioned yesterday, an insightful read. As for comparing online magazines to print magazines? Well I'm not sure that's entirely fair. We're not paying $7.95 for each issue of an online magazine, and many of the staff work (if only initially) for no pay. ONLINE MAGAZINES ARE FREE.
That reminds me - The June 2011 issue of Matchbook magazine (with Shoshanna Gruss, aka "Jerry Seinfeld's ex" on the cover) is live! Click to read.

Day in the life: Bits + bobs from the past few days

Did I mention that after successfully installing our louvres, Mr Tonic went and made a 6 hour slow roasted pork shoulder with roast veggies for dinner on Saturday night?
That thing was enormous - let's just say it was pork 7 ways in the Tonic household this week...
On Sunday afternoon, it was muffin making with Mini-Tonic. Who donned a fetching lilac fairy dress for the occasion:
I used a recipe (below) from the Marie Claire "Seasonal Kitchen" cookbook, which is one of the few of my cookbooks that isn't packed away! And yes. They were gooood. And they had yoghurt in them, which I rather enjoyed.
Fresh copies of July Marie Claire & Vogue:
Which brings me to this morning - A frothy latte in my new Kit cosmetics (they do a mean bronzer, ladies!) "keep cup":
Today is beautiful and warm in Sydney - especially for the second day of Winter - Twenty degrees! Heaven. The threads? Subtitled stripey top / Bassike tee / Nudie jeans / Jerome Dreyfuss bag.
Happy "Hump Day" Tonic-ettes! PS If you haven't already, don't forget to check out the Spring 2011 issue of gorgeous online mag, Anthology!
